2012 Chapter President - TJ Hawks, MAI
In my years of involvement with the Kansas City Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, I have experienced first-hand one of the most apparent rewards of membership: those who step forward and become involved in chapter activities reap the benefit of their hours of commitment and volunteerism.
It is apparent that the Appraisal Institute is re-evaluating the challenges related to its viability, as our designated membership ages. There is good news as we look at 2012, as our national organization has proposed changes that will encourage non-designated members to achieve his or her designation. Our existing members will be called upon to mentor and support those pursuing their designations. I have personally seen that members of the Kansas City chapter are able and willing to help those who request guidance. With the dedication of our local members, all members: designated and non-designated will find rewards in the working together to achieve our organizations mission.
Looking forward into 2012 on a local chapter level, communication with our membership also is vital. As current national topics affect our organization and each of us, keeping our membership up-to-date on these issues is essential. Our 2012 education committee was established in mid 2011. This group has worked diligently and established a slate of course and seminar offerings already in place for 2012. We currently are working to have numerous social/educational events to provide members a place to network and learn more about local markets and projects. Increasing the membership’s activity should be a goal for all of us in 2012 with continued strong attendance at chapter events, as well as inviting new and potential members to help cultivate the non-designated members and our future leaders in the industry.
If you have any desire to serve the Kansas City Chapter or Region II of the Appraisal Institute on a committee, please contact me or any other Board member.
It is an honor to serve as the 2012 Chapter President, a role in which I will continue to strive for excellence for the Kansas City chapter.
Respectfully,
TJ Hawks, MAI
